Ernest was Richard's Grandfather

Ernest enlisted into the royal Garrison Artillery as a Gunner, then transferred to the Royal Engineers Signals as a Switchboard Operator.

Text from Richard "I know he spent some time in Turkey and the story goes a cigarette case stopped a bullet killing him ( the bullet hit the case) whilst he was in hospital the cigarette case was stolen. That is the story I was told when I was young."
