Percy Shimeld.

Peter’s Uncle.

Percy Shimeld was my Mother’s Brother. He was the twin of Frank Dracass Shimeld who died in infancy. He was born on 24/3/1899 at 50 Milner Rd, Sheffield to Frank and Alice Shimeld. He served with 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers No 65440 and was killed between 23rd/25th August 1918 near Courcelles-le-Comte, France. He has no known grave but he is commemorated on memorial panel no 3, vis-en-artois cemetery, pas de calais. France. When he enlisted he was an employee of Vickers and lived at 19 Vainor Road, Wadsley. Sheffield Forgemasters is its modern name and he is commemorated on their memorial at the gate to the River Don Works.

Harold Shimeld was my Mother’s Brother. He was born 19/2/1896 at 80 Richards Rd, Sheffield to Frank and Alice Shimeld. He served in France with 12th [Sheffield] Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, #12/778, he was an orderly room clerk. He became chief environmental health inspector for Lincoln and died there 09/01/1981.
