John (Jack) Keeling

John was Adrian’s great uncle.

John (Jack) Keeling served with the Royal Army Service Corps and died in France on 17/12/18.  He was the husband of Elsie Keeling nee Metcalfe of 67 Watery St., Sheffield. He was the brother of Sgt. Herbert Blonk Keeling MM. He was born at Sheffield in 1888.
John was Private M/346512 123rd Auxiliary Petrol Company, Royal Army Service Corps.

Jack and his brother Herbert, along with seven other siblings, were the grandchildren of Emma Blonk who was the last in the line of the Blonk Family of Sheffield who were Scissorsmiths. William Blonk arrived in Sheffield around 1600 from Nottingahmshire and became a member of the Company of Cutlers very early on in its existence. Blonk Street and Bridge, and the now lost square were named after the family.
