Joseph Hadfield

In memory of Joseph Hadfield, gone but not forgotten.

Joseph Hadfield was Nigel’s great grandfather.
96655 Driver Royal Field Artillery, 29th Division, 49th Battalion.
A former furnace man for the Atlas Works in Sheffield, Joseph was born at 12 Prospect Place, Heeley on 27/6/1880.
He served in France in 1914 and early 1915 being wounded there. From mid-late 1915 he was at Gallipoli. He was drowned when the HM Transport ship S.S. Marquette was torpedoed by U. 35 in Salonika Bay of the Aegean. All 167 souls, including nurses, perished.
He was entitled to the 1914 Star, Victory and British War medals.
