Charles Herbert Dronfield

Submitted by Sean Fitzgerald

Charles Herber was Sean's Grandfather

This man is my Grandfather who signed up to the Manchester Regiment in 1914 and later served in the KOYLI.
He fought at the Battle of the Somme and, according to my aunt, was credited with trying to save the life of his Commanding Officer, Wilfred Owen, on the Sambre-Oise Canal at Ors in 1918.
He was pictured in the Sheffield Star with fellow survivors at the 75th Anniversary of the Great War.
