Albert Briggs

Albert was Matt’s Great Grandfather. Born 4/1/1893 he joined up at Sheffield on 7/9/1915 aged 22. At the time of joining up he lived at Bungay Street, Park, Sheffield. He was dealt with three times for being AWOL and was subsequently transferred to the Lancashire Fusiliers in 1916. He served in Egypt in 1916-1917 before going to France in 1917. Three months after arriving in France he received an accidental gunshot to his foot whilst cleaning his weapon. He was subsequently discharged in 1918.
He survived the war and died in later life in 1958.
