Austin Francis Bourne

Austin was Bernards Great Uncle

Born in Sheffield on 22/8/1891, Austin emigrated to Canada on 20/3/1910 arriving on 10/4/1910. The fourth of nine children by William Henry and Clare Elizabeth(nee Kitchen) Bourne, he settled 15 miles north of Lloydminster in Alberta as a farmer. When war came Austin enlisted on 23/12/1914 and served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force as Private #114085 with the 28th Bn. Saskatchewan Infantry.

He had had previous service with the Notts. Yeomanry before emigrating.

He was killed on 22/8/1917 aged 26 and is commemorated on the Vimy Memorial.
