Frank Barnsley

Frank was Andrea’s great uncle.
He was Lance corporal Frank Barnsley 12/862 Sheffield pals (York and Lancasters),
killed on July 1st 1916 at the battle of the Somme. He was with his unit around the town of Serre. No body found but he is listed on the Thiepval memorial.
Born at Sheffield, Frank was only 21 years old, could speak French and Spanish and was very keen to improve himself. He also had 2 brothers who were killed in the war too, Harold and Thomas. Frank is commemorated at Thiepval, Harold is buried in Grevillars and Thomas is buried at New Popperinghe in Belgium.
