Cecil Harmer Barnard

Submitted by Anne Lister Barnard

Cecil was Anne's father

Cecil was born in Sheffield 22/11/1895. Died Broadstone Dorset 22/9/65

My father, having enlisted in October 1915, fought in the Battle of Jutland. After the war he served on Mine Sweepers.

He then returned to civilian life - became a teacher, and eventually a headmaster at Ann's Road Secondary School and Carfield Secondary School in Sheffield.

He married his first wife, May Twigg - (who died in 1940), in 1932. He then married my mother - Kathleen Annie Hurd, also from Sheffield.
Upon his retirement in 1960 the whole family moved to Dorset. He died in 1965 - exactly two months before his 70th birthday.
